It sort of looks like the more talking and writing and publishing about obesity, the more it increases.

But I have been paying closer attention. I was watching mothers picking up their children at a suburban pre-school. Most of the mothers were 10-30 lbs overweight, but all the children seemed to be normal weight.

I thought you'd be interested in a unique product that is being launched in January 2008 by a New York City company to fight childhood obesity. As you are aware obesity in children is a huge issue in New York City. According to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, nearly half of New York City elementary school children are not at a healthy weight and one in five kindergarten children is obese.

Elmhurst Dairy, the only milk processing facility in New York City, is introducing an innovative concept called ELMoo™ to promote low fat and no fat milk to kids in a fun way. Kids are very attracted to the adorable cow-shaped bottle that comes with stickers and games as well as an associated interactive website. The parents will prefer ELMoo™ milk because
• the fun aspect will encourage their children to drink healthier milk,
• it stays fresh longer because it will be processed with a special clarifier technology,
• the opaque white bottle shields the milk from light which degrades the vitamins and
• the kidvenient 3 quart size has an easy pour design and fits in the side door of the refrigerator.
If anyone is interested in the ELMooTM concept and the fight against child obesity , please contact lmorman@elmhurstdairy.com.

Childhood obesity is tragic. Overeating can cause it, but genetic disorders are also involved: People with a mutation that codes for the lepin gene have a permanent low level of the hormone and insatiable hunger; Individuals with two copies of the fat-mass and obesity-associated enzyme have a 70 percent higher risk of obesity; Low levels of the hormone adiponecttin is associated with obesity.
